In a bizarre incident, doctors at the Bundi government hospital, Rajasthan has removed 116 iron nails, long wire and an iron pellet from the stomach of a 42-year-old man.
“I was stunned after noticing the objects in his X-ray report after which I recommended for a CT scan. That, too, confirmed the same after which the patient was operated upon on Monday,” said Dr Ashok Saini, a surgeon at the hospital. Dr Saini said that most nails measured 6.5cm and took nearly an hour-and-a-half to remove the objects from the man’s body. Dr Saini further added that the condition of the patient post-operation is normal and he was speaking properly.
The 42-year-old patient had come for a medical checkup following a stomach pain on Sunday. Later the doctors found out bizarre things in the man’s stomach after carrying out an x-ray.
Similar cases had taken place earlier in Kolkata, where iron nails measuring 2.5 cm were removed from the stomach of a patient. In 2017, at least 150 needles and nails were removed from the body of a Bundi resident, at a Faridabad hospital.
However, the patient is unable to narrate the reason to swallow such a huge amount of objects. Even his family members were not able to explain the reason behind this.
