MCI of late is seen to be becoming stricter at least in approving new medical colleges or increasing the number of seats in those colleges.

New colleges fail to get nod

Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in Faridabad will not be able to start its maiden MBBS course this year. MCI has refused to grant the permission. Though the exact reason is not known, it might be due to lacunae in filling teaching staff and subject experts.

Recently, 400 MBBS seats in Telangana were cancelled and MCI is talking tough on the alleged irregularities in these colleges for staff recruitment and other violations.

Government proposes but MCI disposes

Two medical colleges in Kerala were under verge of losing their 150 seats only to get a breather for 3 months to fill the lacunae. There have been same problems with the Goa Medical College and the confusion still exists whether the number of approved seats are 100 or 150.

MCI talks tough on ghost faculty

MCI in the recent years is going all out against hiring ghost faculties by new medical colleges. It debarred 7 doctors from Telangana and Andra Pradesh. MCI is also pushing for RFID technology for faculty to put an end to ghost faculty.
