Yesterday in a bizarre incident at the AIIMS casualty, this man was apprehended. He claimed to be an Orthopedic SR with a MBBS degree from VMMC, Safdarjung Hospital.

Here is how he was caught- He pulled up a chair next to the CMO in the casualty, and started reading a CT scan. But the CT was upside down and he ordered a JR to admit a stable patient immediately. This raised a suspicion he was really a doctor. One of the doctors then asked ” Where is the femur in the body?”. He was unable to answer and on further questioning he unravelled. The story he revealed shocked everyone.

He named other Ortho SRs and MBBS candidates from VMMC and claims they are his close friends. He has been seen for quite sometime around the hospital, and is cordial with the security staff. In reality this man is a conman, pretending to be a doctor. He cons unsuspecting patients with promises of admission at AIIMS and demands larger sums of money in exchange for these “favors”.

It is people like these who bring bad repute to all doctors, who selflessly toil for the good of all patients. These people also bring disrepute to premier institution such as AIIMS. Hats off to the doctors who unmasked this con man. Incidents like these are becoming more common in many hospitals. Vigilance on our part will help nab other such conmen and prevent patient exploitation.
