In a recent move, Bihar Cabinet has decided to provide AYUSH practitioners equal pay as allopathic practitioners. AYUSH(Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) practitioners working with government will now get paid par to the allopathic medical practitioners of the state.
The policy has got its approval from the health ministry of the state soon after the cabinet took the decision. Also, the department released a notice defining the new salary structure of AYUSH practitioners working in various government sectors. While an increment of 5% annual salary has been given to the contractual doctors under NRHM and RBS, the lecturers and medical officers of the AYUSH colleges have been given an increment of 10% annual salary.
According to the notification of the Bihar state health department, the following will be the new salary structure of AYUSH practitioners.
1. Under NHRM and RBS, AYUSH doctors to get a 5% annual increase with a monthly honorarium of Rs. 44,000. This was earlier 30,000 for NHRM practitioners and mere 21,000 for RBS practitioners.
2. Lecturer and health officer of AYUSH college to get a 10% annual increase with a monthly honorarium of Rs. 75,000
3. The reader at medical colleges to get a 10% annual rise with a monthly honorarium of Rs. 86,500
4. The Chair/professor to get 10% rise with a monthly honorarium of Rs. 1,32,500.
The government decided to deploy AYUSH doctors on contract basis for the first time in 2010, as per the health department. The placement advertisement for 1544 posts was released in the same year, among which 1384 posts were made on a contract basis. The planning was done by National Rural Health Mission(NRHM).
