It was a day of marathon deliveries for both Maternity and Child Care Hospital at Siddhipet and Dr. Aruna Naidu, obstetrician and gynecologist of the hospital. The hospital has created a record by performing 33 deliveries in 24 hours. All the surgeries were performed by Dr. Aruna with the help of the hospital’s nursing staff.
Of the 33 deliveries, 17 were normal deliveries and for the rest, doctors had to perform a C-section. According to the reports, out of the 33 babies born, 16 are boys, and 17 are girls, and all the newborns and their mothers are in good health. On that day, another junior doctor was on leave. But that didn’t prevent Dr. Aruna from attending all the cases since all of the cases were needed to be taken care of.
Dr. Aruna Naidu, a doctor on one of her periodic 24-hour shifts, said it was one of the busiest days she experienced and at times, there were up to four mothers-to-be who needed simultaneous attention. “This could not have been possible but for the dedication and assistance from the nurses, who were on duty in teams of three on eight-hour shifts,” she said.
Dr.Aruna says it was not tiresome and she even felt happy seeing the joyous faces of the new mothers. “We wanted to send a message to everyone that this government hospital is equipped to provide best health services to pregnant women. In fact, we have better facilities and qualified staff than most private and corporate hospitals,” she added.
Dr. Aruna says that the primary focus and attention were given to conduct normal deliveries. A general trend noticed in the country is that private hospitals doctors usually rush to perform only cesarean surgeries. But Dr. Aruna says that caesarian shouldn’t be the first option ever, but to be performed only when needed.
With the introduction of KCR Kits for new mothers and babies, government hospitals in Telangana were witnessing an increase in the number of women coming for prenatal care, deliveries, and post-natal care. Dr.Aruna joined the hospital in Siddipet last month.
