30 % of medical faculty doesn’t have MBBS degrees, reveals a presentation given to the BoG

Around 30% of the faculty who teaches first and second-year medical students of the medical colleges doesn’t have MBBS degree themselves, reveals a presentation given to the Board of Governors (BOG), which replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI) as the country’s apex regulatory body for medical education.
The presentation was given by a group of doctors to BoG. “As there weren’t enough PG doctors several decades ago, the MCI said that those with general Masters in Science degree can be employed in medical colleges for non-clinical subjects such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, provided they hold an MBBS degree,” C M Kamaal, vice-president of the All India Pre & Para Clinical Medicos Association, said. “But later, even those without an MBBS degree, and who holds an MSc or PhDs in life sciences, also started being employed as faculty, as recruitment at medical colleges, at the state level, can be easily manipulated,” he added.
The doctors have also demanded to make MBBS degree, compulsory qualification criteria for joining medical colleges as teachers.
“We have received the presentation in the matter and will soon take some action in this regard,” an official in the Board said.

It wrong and unethical that non mbbs teachers are teaching future doctors… We can’t imagine these things are happening in the 21st century
I have heard that most of these Non medico MSc, PhD are wards of senior officials of govt and entered laterally into medical colleges.
Public and students are unaware because they also prefix “Dr” coz have PhD degree.
Very sad condition.
On one side the whole world is improving all the systems and making them more specific , medical education system of our country is going downwards continuously due to such lacunae in it.
These lacunae must be corrected as soon as possible if we want our medical education free from all evil things.
