A patient’s kin attacked at least three junior doctors at the Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital in Delhi on Wednesday night. The incident happened after a three year old patient died.

The patient who suffered from encephalitis died during treatment.

While the assailants-about 20 in number attacked the doctors with iron rods, the patient’s mother bit the duty doctor. The security guards apparently ran away so the doctors had to defend themselves.

The child when she was brought into the hospital was in a critical condition. A doctor said to TOI that they did their best to save her. However, the family had a different view, alleging that she would be alive if proper care was provided.

The assailants also broke into the doctor’s duty room where some of the residents were sitting, said Dr. Vivek Chauksey to the newspaper, The Times of India. Dr. Vivelk is the president of the Resident Doctors’ Association(RDA) at the Lady Hardinge Medical College. Kalawati Saran is a part of it.
