The non-teaching doctors in Goa now need retire only by the age of 62. The approval to this end was given by the cabinet on Tuesday. Before this, the retirement age was 60 years. The new retirement age will benefit about 100 doctors in the state.

Talking to the media on Tuesday, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that the decision will benefit those doctors who work at district hospitals, primary health centres and urban health centres.

For teaching doctors, the retirement age was raised from 60 to 65 years rather recently. Justifying the same, the CM pointed out the shortage of teaching doctors which currently exists. He said that the facility has been upgraded and that more doctors are required.
