What with the assault on medical practitioners by patients’ attendants getting more frequent, the Madhya Pradesh chapter of IMA wants more safety cover for doctors.

• Assaults are frequent in the state, the most recent happening at Apple Hospital and MY Hospital
• Even though the Doctors’ Protection Act is in force in the state, not many in the general public are actually aware of it. IMA plans to have notices put up in hospitals and nursing homes to raise awareness
• The act was passed in state assembly to provide security to doctors and other medical professionals. Under the act, any act of violence or threat to medical personnel is a cognizable and non-bailable offence

Dr R K Sodani, President, Indore IMA chapter also said that the organization will request government to be more sensitive in such situations
