AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik has reportedly said that doctors prescribing non-ayurvedic medicines are “anti-nationals”.

During a recent visit to Kolhapur district of Maharashtra he said, “Some ayurveda practitioners have told me that doctors prescribing allopathy medicines often advise patients not to opt for ayurveda. Such doctors are anti-nationals”.

Naik was inaugrating an ayurvede research centre at this time and also questioned how anyone could oppose “the oldest medical system while the whole world was showing interest in it.” He also added that Kolhapur was one among many places where numerous plant species with medicinal properties were grown and that his ministry would look to explore the potential of these plants and herbs.

The AYUSH department focuses its attention on education and research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy systems.
