On Saturday, a murder case was registered against unknown person(s) regarding the death of Dr Sarvanan Ganeshan- a 26 year old junior resident doctor of AIIMS. The doctor who was pursuing an MD at AIIMS was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his rented flat in Gautam Nagar on the 10th of July, 2016.

The police had earlier said that the case was one of suicide.

Ganeshan was found with a cannula attached to his forearm. However, his autopsy report stated that the doctor hasn’t committed suicide. The report also mentioned that there was no injury marks on the body-neither external nor internal.

Also, no substantial evidence was present for drugs where the body was found.

The doctors who performed the autopsy said that the cannula through which the medicine was injected into the body was fixed on the right forearm. But Ganeshan was right-handed, so he couldn’t have done it himself. Another fact is that the bottle of medicine-supposedly potassium chloride wasn’t found where the body was at.

As per a police source, “If he injected on his own, then the bottle should have been on the spot. No such bottle was recovered by the investigative team. Also, the door of the flat was ajar and no suicide note was found at his flat. All this indicates that it may be a case of murder.”

“A case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC has been registered today at Hauz Khas police station against unknown persons. Ganeshan’s parents had approached a Delhi court alleging foul play in their son’s death and the court had asked police about the action taken in the matter. We have registered an FIR,” said a senior police officer.
