Doctors at the Government Medical College in Amritsar were attacked by relatives of a patient who died in the hospital. The attack was so severe that the arm of one of the doctors-Jagbir Singh was broken. Two other doctors- Sukhdeep Singh and Inderjot Kaur were also attacked.

The junior resident doctors of the hospital had gone on a protest following the attack.

With the intervention of the Deputy Commissioner, the hospital authorities yesterday conceded to the protesters’ demands

The management has agreed to post 33 guards and 5 police personnel. A system of one attendant per patient will also be implemented. Also, to avoid having the attendants entering the wards, 500 chairs are to be installed in the emergency block.
