Amira\u2019s children didn\u2019t sustain any many injuries, but she suffered shrapnel wounds on her face and body. She was nine months pregnant at the time of the attack.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrounds.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/syrian-baby-amel_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrounds.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/syrian-baby-amel_1-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"syrian-baby-amel_1\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1813\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAmira and her family rushed to the hospital, where she arrived looking \u201csad and confused,\u201d Mashfa al Midani Hospital spokesman Abu Louie told CNN. &#8220;She was surrounded by her three wounded kids, (and) she was bleeding from several parts of her body including her belly,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors acted quickly to conduct an emergency C-section only to find that the baby had a piece of shrapnel lodged in her forehead, just above her left eye. Luckily, doctors were able to remove it and Amira and her newborn Amel, which is Arabic for \u201chope,\u201d are reportedly recovering well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t know if the baby girl saved her mother from this shrapnel or the mother saved her baby&#8221; a doctor told CNN<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrounds.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/syrian-baby-amel_0.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrounds.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/syrian-baby-amel_0-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"syrian-baby-amel_0\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1817\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stories like these show us how doctors strive to restore human life even in tough circumstances.
